Abbot and Costello; Bonnie & Clyde; Lahinch and Doonbeg—some combinations are just plain memorable. And we'd like to suggest that Lynchpin and golf Ireland are in that league. Not because we are notorious—far from it—but because we take as much care over your itinerary as you would over a three footer on the last green.
We know that the summum bonum for many golfers are the big name courses such as Ballybunion and The Old Head. But with green fees running at $220 and $390 respectively (and tee times at Ballybunion Old being traded on e-Bay) may we suggest that there is more to your golfing life than inscribing some very well-worn names upon the shaft of your pitching wedge?
As golfers ourselves, we know that it seems criminal to come 3,000 or more miles and to pass up on some of the best links courses on the planet. Which is precisely why we will gladly give you those courses but we also humbly suggest that you explore some of the lesser known gems and save yourself both the torture of a marram grass safari and equally tall green fees.
Courses such as Dooks, Carne, Murvagh and Rosapenna are all on the windswept west coast and will provide you with many happy hours—and even happier memories—at a fraction of the price of the manicured swards of Mount Juliet and—dare we say it—the K Club.
Nor is this pitch aimed at gents only. We take pride in producing good value for money tours for lady golfers, using friendly accommodations and including some good attractions, restaurants and retail therapy. Many years ago, when I first mooted producing an Irish itinerary for lady golfers, I called Maureen Madill, lifelong friend and 1980 British Ladies Champion. "What do you want to see in this brochure?" I asked her. She replied: I don't know, but I do know that I do not want to see some bimbo handing a man a golf ball with a stupid smile on her face." And it is in this spirit of respect that we offer up our golf tours to you.
