Study Tour: Overview

As an ex-student and sometime teacher, travel agent and tour operator, Lowell Courtney has suffered more misguided study tours and familiarisation trips than any man should ever be asked to endure. Uncomfortable busses which put the "truck" into "instruction"; single rooms with garbage view and group meals which were living proof as to why every one of mankind's cultures has distilled alcohol in order to disinfect the consequent state of one's stomach.
This is simply not good enough, especially for our clients, who rightly expect to be treated as civilised—and paying—human beings. This is why we do not offer cut-price "see Ireland in four day" tours but instead concentrate on offering a customised itinerary which gives you a chance to see and meet the forces which are shaping modern Ireland.
Some of these influences are unique to Ireland; some are pan European. Taken together, they will provide a thoughtful insight into the gulf between perception and reality which clouds transatlantic dealings. We make no exaggerated claims—inevitably, some students will just enjoy the ride, but the more thoughtful students will begin to understand what makes Irish and European ways of thinking and dealing subtly different.
In planning these tours, we have been influenced by our own experience, going way back to Lowell's first visit to USA in 1975. But we have also benefited from our unique position as the only privately-owned Irish tour company which is based in Northern Ireland but which operates mostly in southern Ireland.
