Golf Tours: Overview

It is an untruth universally acknowledged that a country possessed of some of the greatest links courses in the world must be in want of extremely well-heeled golfers who are ready and willing to pay outrageous fees to follow in the footsteps of Messrs Woods & Co.

Wrong

One of our taglines is: "We don't do blarney." We don't do "mission statements" either, but if we were to be so foolish, we would be on a mission to inform and persuade you that you can have an excellent golf vacation in Ireland without exhausting your credit or your body. It saddens us to see drained golfers arriving in Portrush, having driven hundreds of miles.

And it grieves us greatly to talk to fellow hackers (divots, not digits) and to hear the old refrain that "we'd love to go to Ireland but it's too pricey."

Wrong

Sure, if you only want to add the well-worn notches to the stock of your golfing rifle— with subsequent winter bragging rights in the bar. Of course you should play the likes of Ballybunion, Portmarnock, Co. Down and Portrush at least once before joining Peter, Paul and Gabriel in a fourball. But, as the devil often reminds us, we never forget that you have a choice. There are a host of relatively unknown but terrific links— and parkland— courses in Ireland and it is our desire to introduce them to you.

Right

Let's start with Dooks, a super links course near Killarney and less than half the price of Waterville. Or what about Cruit Island in Donegal— a nine hole course founded by the local priest, which wanders through the sandhills. Would you rather be remembered for having left an airport or a golf course as your legacy? Or Bushfoot, another nine hole wonder with fabulous views of the Giants Causeway and only one mile from Old Bushmills Distillery?

Precisely

As Tom Lehrer once said: "You're way ahead of me." The point is that there are any number of operators who will offer you tours of the famous courses on a "If it's Tuesday, it must be Ballybunion" variety. What they do not tell you is that they conveniently fail to pass on any bulk purchase savings to you, the client. We do— and we like to spice up our itineraries with tried and tested (by us) forays into unfamiliar (for you) territory so that you will not only enjoy the unexpected but will also have something to really talk about at home.
